Lead Mechanic - Yuma Arizona Job Summary: The Mechanic Lead performs administrative duties as required for the operation of the fleet shop. Responsibilities include but are not limited to requisitioning parts and monitoring the maintenance schedule of Company vehicles insuring that all services are completed at scheduled intervals. This position is designed as a working Lead position. Essential Functions: Management Assigns work to fleet mechanics from daily work orders. Provides necessary instruction and guidance to fleet mechanics. Provides updates on the progress of projects Makes recommendations for personnel actions elating to discipline and compensation. Supports Company Policy and Management Decisions in a positive manner. Maintenance Schedules repair for all fleet vehicles and prioritizes work as necessary. Ensures that strict schedules of maintenance are performed and completed in a timely manner. Ability to perform functions of all other mechanic positions within the department as required Follows up on vehicles having services performed by outside vendors. Serves as backup for Fleet Supervisor when needed. Administrative Data entry into computer system Data entry into RTA system Requisition of parts, tires and shop supplies. Holds fleet mechanics responsible for quality of work completed. Holds mechanics responsible for prompt and accurate completion of work orders. Monitors safety inspections required on various shop and safety equipment. Customer Service Works with outside vendors as needed. Works with internal and external customers. Maintenance Monitors daily shop cleanup. Compliance Requires a clean driving report acceptable by Company standards. Maintains safe and healthy workplace in accordance with all appropriate OSHA standards, company policies and local standard operating procedures. Complies with and enforces all policies and procedures. Training Participates in all required training sessions, including, but not limited to any mandatory Company training. Actively participates in ASE / EVT training programs. Assists in training of individuals with lesser experience or training. Assists with training for field employees when needed. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as directed. Other duties may be assigned that are specific to the local operation. Qualifications: Current state driver's license Satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's Driving Policy. At least 5 years experience as a front line mechanic in both gasoline and diesel engines, electrical, brakes, suspension systems, transmissions and A/C, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong leadership, communication and mentoring skills. . Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED required. Tech School Diploma, or equivalent certification, training, and experience. While performing the duties of this job, personnel are frequently required to walk, sit, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, lift, talk, see, hear, feel, use clear speech and operate machinery. There is a need to reach and perform moderate (20-50 pounds) and heavy (50-100 pounds) lifting during the use of tools and equipment. Equipment Operated: Mechanical tools, electrical tools, air tools, diagnostic scan tools, various jacks, telephone, computer, calculator, copy machine, stapler, fax, scanner, cell phone and/or blackberry, and printer. Works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles (potential exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne and airborne pathogens), toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration Noise level can be very loud at times.
